What has been a challenge in your RISE–ing process? How have you overcome those challenges?
I came to this country 12 years ago. I come from a low income family in India., so coming to this country was not easy. I am a first-generation immigrant. However, this journey, along with the successes and failures, has shaped me to become a confident and independent woman. I am so grateful for this experience. I think it is important to understand the magnitude of your actions. You should believe in yourself and your potential. Every setback is a setup for your comeback. Use your challenges and failures to feed the fire to your soul and give your 100 percent. Recognize the opportunity, seize the moment, and work very hard for it because there are 100 other people fighting for the same opportunity as you are.

Yard by yard, inch by inch, life is hard. Take one small step at a time and believe in yourself because God doesn’t give big battles to little soldiers. He knows you can do it.

“Not everyone can be famous, but people can be great because it is determined by your service”- Oprah. I really found this quote inspirational and I think it has played a big role in my life. You are born with self confidence. It is something that you develop over time through life experiences. Don’t give up and stand up for what you truly believe in. Dream big because girls and boys with dreams become women and men with a vision.

As a healthcare professional and a mom, I always advocate to eradicate preventable diseases, like measles through vaccines. We have come so far with science and advancements in healthcare that we can’t afford to go back in history.
What does RISE mean to you?
We grow by empowering others. By standing shoulder to shoulder, we can uplift each other. I encourage everyone to volunteer at some point in their life because there is always someone who needs your help. Listen to the survivor’s stories and you’ll fall in love with how strong they are.
