The instructor

The training will be provided by Ritah Ssanyu, an acid attack survivor and staff person at End Acid Violence Uganda.  Ritah has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Makerere University and recently obtained a certificate in shoe making and craft designing from the Presidential Initiative to Skills the Girl Child.  She started making jewelry two years ago after learning from a friend whose bead shop she would visit.  Ritah is also one of the primary contributors to RISE’s Artisan Marketplace and has first-hand experience with producing and marketing crafts for sale in the US and Europe.

 

What skills will be taught?

  • Paper bead making
  • Kitenge wrapping
  • Using social media/apps for inspiration (for ex, how to search Etsy for ideas)
  • Marketing of crafts (to include photographing items and posting on social media or other sales channels)

Other information

The training will take place at the End Acid Violence offices in Kampala, Uganda.  It will be one week long, five days per week (40 hours total.)

Costs to train each survivor include:

  • Instructor fees
  • Craft making supplies (ex, wire cutters)
  • Food & transportation
