What do we mean by immediate effects?

Within one hour after the attack

Impact on the body

When attacked with acid, the skin is immediately affected. Survivors typically describe a strong burning sensation and say they felt as though their skin was 'melting.'

Types of acid used

The most common acids used are sulfuric acid with a pH of 2.75, hydrochloric acid with a pH of 3.01, and nitric acid with a pH of 3.01 (all values are one millimole per liter). As the pH value decreases, the power of the acid increases.

Treatment/First-Aid in the case of an attack

During the initial minutes after an acid attack, the most important things to do are to remove any clothing and jewelry and to rinse the affected area with water.  You should also get to a hospital as quickly as possible.
